Susan’s Place is more than just a shelter for our residents. It's a place to be educated on healthy lifestyle choices, a place to learn to take on the responsibilities of being independent, and a place to prepare residents for life after leaving the shelter. Through programs and special events, the residents at Susan's Place are offered opportunities to better themselves while they work toward independence again.
Every week, a group of women at Susan's Place put their walking shoes on and head out into the Bronx with our Health Educators. The group, "Walk It Out/Talk It Out" are learning not just about personal wellness, but also about discipline. The group has become so passionate about getting together to get healthy that they added aerobics into their workout regimen.
Our Women's Job Readiness Program is a FREE 12-week job and life-skills training program for homeless women who are ready to enter or re-enter the workforce. The program includes training in basic math skills, reading and writing skills, job preparation, computer literacy, life-management skills, resume and cover letter writing, work etiquette and assistance during their job search.
