MICA Specialist
The MICA Specialist will reach out and engage HIV clients
and non-HIV clients with appropriate concern for their substance
abuse (SA) and mental health (MH) problems and work closely with
the HIV/MH Intensive Case Managers, medical team, and outreach site
staff; formulate a SA and/or MH assessment of clients and engage
clients to determine the best treatment modality; provide counseling;
work with service providers to coordinate services and ensure continuity
of care; encourage and provide support for client to assume responsibility
for their care; lead weekly educational & SA and/or MH support
groups at field sites.
MSW preferred; Bachelor degree with case management experience,
CASAC LICENSE REQUIRED; Experience with persons living with AIDS/HIV,
addiction and/or mental illness. Must be flexible and capable of
heavy field work and ability to work on interdisciplinary team.
Strong supervision and training are provided. Must have solid writing
skills and complete writing sample in interview. Bilingual Spanish
strongly preferred.

Treatment Adherence Specialist
Responsible for maintaining a caseload of HIV+ clients and providing
treatment adherence support services to them. Develop and maintain
a professional relationships with staff of contracted medical providers
and social service staff at assigned outreach sites and communicate
with them about treatment adherence support services.
Strong case management skills especially in the area of HIV+ clients
and homeless population. Excellent verbal and written communication
skills. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred. Bachelor’s degree
in social work or community health education preferred.

Spring, Summer and Fall 2008 Policy and Advocacy
interns
Interns will work directly with the Director of Policy.
They will be introduced to the wide range of issues currently affecting
the provision of health-related services, including but not limited
to Medicaid reform, mental health and substance abuse, health education,
HIV/AIDS, the health care delivery infrastructure, and shelter and
housing reforms. Internships, however, will focus on one issue,
determined by the interests and qualifications of the intern/s.
It is expected the intern/s will develop expertise in one area.
The Director of Policy also coordinates the activities of the NYC
Providers of Health Care for the Homeless, a coalition of the homeless
health centers which advocates for the health care rights of homeless
people in New York. Interns will be asked to complete a series of
tasks to develop the skills necessary for successful policy and
advocacy work and will either assist or themselves produce various
policy related materials during the internship.
Interns will be exposed to working with coalitions, collaborative
partnerships and alliances, and with policy decision-makers.
Interns should expect to assist with administrative functions
and should have excellent research and communication skills, be
well organized and self-directed.
